De Havilland Field is the future aircraft production and maintenance base for De Havilland Aircraft of Canada.
Based solely on concept renderings and the area concept plan available at dehavillandfield.com, this add-on has been created with a substantial amount of creative license. There are no real-life facilities of any kind to guide me, so everything is purely creatively driven and hand-crafted using stock Asobo assets. The ICAO code CZDH is likewise pure speculation.
Since the real location is currently farmland, I needed to cover the existing ground and draw everything over a pretty substantial piece of land. So please forgive the less-than-natural look of the terrain and scenery (it looks great in snow though!). I will improve it with updates over time.
De Havilland Field will be a production and maintenance facility, so there are no gates, jetways, or other relevant infrastructure, just stands and a fuel truck.
This is my very first product working with the MSFS SDK, and I learned everything while working on this project alone, so there will be updates and improvements as time goes on. Constructive feedback is welcome.
Features:
- Runway 32/14: 2,041m (6,698ft) with ALS and PAPI
- 7 parking stands
- A single fuel truck that lives in South parking, so unless you like long waits…
- Taxiway A# with some extra exit taxiways not present in the renderings. Taxiway B on the far side of the runway is not linked, to prevent the AI from sending you the long way around.
- Tower and Ground ATC
- A thoroughly unrealistic number of trees and cars
Wish List:
- ILS, once I learn how
- Approach NDBs, if the SDK ever allows it
- A prop DHC-2 for the museum after the 40th Anniversary Update
- A CL-215/415 prop if someone wants to contribute
- More natural ground textures
- More scenery / roads befitting a production and maintenance facility (hey, it's not Microsoft Car Simulator...
As I am uploading this in November of 2022, the real De Havilland Field is planned to be built in phases over the next 10-15 years. While I intend to create more accurate versions as detailed designs fall into place and construction starts, there are obviously no guarantees!
Assets used in screenshots are Philippe Marion’s Q400 and the Aerosoft Twin Otter. Neither are included in this download.
Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with, employed, or compensated in any way, by De Havilland Aircraft of Canada, or any subsidiary or parter organization thereof.
Built and tested in Sim Update 10.
Dependencies: None. Extract to your Community folder and go!
Very cool! I was reading an article about this and was wondering if anyone would tackle it. Fun, can't wait to check it out!
You can find the CL-215 in the jpfil aircraft library: https://www.jpfil.com/quebec-fs2020/vfr.htm
