SLRQ - Rurrenabaque Regional and Tourist Airport - Rurrenabaque , Bolivia
Rurrenabaque Regional and Tourist Airport (ICAO: SLRQ) serves the port city of Rurrenabaque, located on the Beni River in the Beni Department of Bolivia. The airport resides at an elevation of 666 ft (203 m) above mean sea level. It has one runway designated 14/32 with an asphalt surface measuring 4.921 by 98 ft (1,500 m by 30 m).
The airport is situated 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) northeast of the city. Notably, Runway 14/32 was asphalted in 2010 and a new terminal, asphalt taxiway and asphalt runway have been built, all of which have already been completed and inaugurated, in their first phase, in December 2023.Prior to this upgrade, due to grass runways, flights were unable to land or take off during rainy days, resulting in frequent delays during the rainy season (December to April), old terminal and airstrip 18/36 are included in the package as POIs.
The airport is nestled at the base of Bolivia’s Cordillera Real mountains, with mountainous terrain to the south.
Rurrenabaque is a small town in the north of Bolivia, on the Beni River. It is the capital of Rurrenabaque Municipality. In recent years, it has become popular with international tourism as it is an easy gateway for visits to Madidi National Park, which is within the Bolivian rainforest. It also provides access to the surrounding pampas. Locals commonly refer to the town by its shortened nickname, "Rurre."
Rurrenabaque is located in José Ballivián Province in Beni Department, Bolivia. Rurrenabaque Municipality, the fourth municipal section of José Ballivián Province, had 19,195 inhabitants as of 2012, of which 13,446 lived in urban Rurrenabaque itself.
In 2020, The New York Times ranked Rurrenabaque, Beni, as the third most important tourist destination to visit in the world.
About Airport and Terminal Building:
====================================
SLRQ Rurrenabaque Regional and Tourist Airport was made in MSFS SDK. Since the terminal buildings are recently operational (December 2023) this effort was made with photos and videos from media. Only some stock library scenery objects were used.
Terminal building was made in SketchUp and ModelConverterX. Thank you to the developers for your developing those tools.
In MSFS the airport exist, but incorrectly reflects 2 runways and presents 2 operational runways, and ICAO is SLRU.
